We proudly specialise in wood window manufacturing and installation.
Our historic window will help you preserve the charm of your traditional home. While more modern wood windows in any RAL colour can keep your home modern and warm.
Benefit from the latest technological improvements and consider wooden windows with external aluminium leaf to extend longevity and reduce maintenance needs.
It is not just about the window design and number of panes - the wood type used is also very important. See a quick explanation of different wood types, used in window manufacturing, here.
Re-creation of everlasting classics
We combine our carpentry experience and partnerships in the wood-making industry to manufacture and re-create historical windows for traditional houses.
We can use drawings or pictures of existing windows to create the same design but also with an improved window performance.
Frames can be single, double or triple glazed and we also offer additional internal partition glass to maintain a traditional look outside, but modern heat-retaining qualities on the inside.
Such works require time and dedication, hence it might take longer than making more modern windows.
For traditional homes
Traditional wood sash windows can be made with various features.
While keeping its traditional look we can upgrade its 'weights and cords' pulling system to an integrated spiral balancing system, which allows for a larger window and more light inflow.
Furthermore, to improve its heat-retaining capacity we can upgrade it to a triple-glazed sash window - significantly improving its energy-saving performance.
And lastly, our EVO range allows you to open a lower sash inwards - giving you a traditional look with a more modern opening system. Top sash would still slide up and down, as usual.
Classic
It seems that there is an increasing demand and interest in wood windows. They are very energy efficient and add a level of class to any home.
When talking about traditional wood windows there are many options to consider - depending on your design, current home and local regulations.
Whenever possible choose triple glazing to keep modern insulation standards and keep in mind that it is very very important to regularly maintain your wooden windows.
The exterior should be inspected yearly and repainted/stained every 3 - 5 years, depending on the type of wood used in manufacturing it.
Traditional materials for a modern home
Forster, established in 1874, manufactures all its windows and doors in Romanshorn, Switzerland, and is well known for its meticulous craftsmanship and innovative design.
We use them mainly for steel and stainless steel window projects on historical buildings, innovative modern glass structures and where slim-frame or curved design is required.
Steel structures are valued by our clients for their stability, and reliability, especially for safety applications.
It is one of the oldest and most trusted companies in the industry, and hence highly appreciated amongst clients with a larger budget.
Modern technology solution
With wood's high heat transition resistance properties and window pack of up to 48mm wide, these windows are exceptionally energy efficient - it can achieve up to Ug=0.5
Aluminium cladding on the outside reduces maintenance requirements and increases the longevity of these modern-looking windows.
It is also cheaper and significantly more energy efficient than the aluminium window alternatives.
Choose between pine, oak or meranti wood, and any colour from the RAL palette - applied in four layers.
The same window can be made from different types of wood and that will impact its look, longevity and even ecological credentials. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages - so we made a table to easily compare between the three.
Type | Pine | Oak | Meranti |
---|---|---|---|
Appearance | Light color, creamy white to light yellow/pale brown, straight grain with occasional knots | Light to medium brown, slight reddish hue, distinctive grain pattern | Light to dark reddish-brown, even texture, straight to interlocked grain |
Durability | Softwood, less durable, can be treated for resistance to decay and insects | Hardwood, very strong and durable, highly resistant to wear, decay, and insects |
Hardwood, good durability, moderately resistant to decay and insects
|
Workability | Easy to work with, easy to cut, shape, and finish | Harder to work with due to density, finishes beautifully, holds screws and nails well | Relatively easy to work with for a hardwood, can be sawn, planed, and finished smoothly |
Cost | Generally more affordable | More expensive | Priced between pine and oak |
Maintenance | Requires more maintenance, regular painting or sealing needed | Requires less frequent maintenance, should be sealed or painted | Requires regular sealing or painting to protect against moisture and UV damage |
In summary:
Pine: Affordable, easy to work with, but requires more maintenance and is less durable.
Oak: Expensive, highly durable, elegant appearance, and requires less maintenance.
Meranti: Mid-range cost, good durability, attractive appearance, and moderate maintenance.
Choosing the right wood depends on your budget, aesthetic preferences, and how much maintenance you’re willing to undertake. Pine is cost-effective and easier to work with, oak offers premium durability and a rich look, while meranti strikes a balance between cost and durability with a warm, uniform appearance.
